About New Zealand
Christchurch is the island's largest city with a population of around 380,000, and is also known as the 'Garden City'. The city is found on the East Coast, about half way down the South Island. It is a short 15 minute drive to the beach from the city centre and the winter ski resorts are an hour or so away.
The picturesque Avon River flows through the many parks in the city and there is a mixture of both modern and traditional styles of architecture. Christchurch has an excellent reputation for education, both in New Zealand and throughout the world. Sports-lovers will find world-class facilities and many clubs and societies where they can pursue their hobbies.
